For many people, regrets are simply a part of life. After all, there are so many forks in the road that it’s easy to wonder, “what if?” about both major and minor life decisions. As it’s often said, we don’t regret the things we did do, we regret the things we didn’t do.
You may find that the number of regrets starts to increase as you get older. It’s easy to look at life as an unwritten book when you’re young and feel like you have all the time in the world to fill the pages. But as anyone older than you can attest, time passes by quickly and before you know it, youth is a thing of the past. You begin to realize that you have to take action in order to results.
One of the best ways to combat regrets is to realize that it’s never too late to start something new. Take what you wish that you’d done in the past and start making progress to bring it into reality. By making a conscious effort to start choosing the best decisions you can make for yourself at the moment, you can avoid accumulating future regret. While the fear of failure or the unknown is often what causes regret in the first place, you have to be willing to take the risk and learn to grow from your mistakes. Ask yourself what’s the worst thing that could happen if you take the chance and you’ll likely find that you’ll be no worse off than you are if you don’t even try. However, you may find yourself one step closer to your goals. You’ll never know unless you take that leap of faith and try something new.
Are you ready to move past the regrets and start to make a change in your life? Do one thing today, tomorrow and every day after that leads you in the direction you want to go. By moving forward, you won’t find yourself looking back and thinking, “I wish I would have done more.”
