There’s more to decision making than meets the eye. Many people focus on the logical side but in order to find a deeper fulfillment you need to consider the emotional aspects of the decision as well. How will it make you feel and why?
For example, consider a new car purchase. The logical reasons behind wanting a new car may include that your current car needs constant repairs or that you want a more reliable car for road trips. The emotional reasons, which are the ones that will give you a greater sense of fulfillment, could be that a new car is fun is to drive.
To get to the bottom of this, ask yourself, “But what for?” Why do you want a new car? Will it actually make you happier in life? Why will it make you happy? If you find that it’s something that will legitimately add enjoyment to your life and that you have the financial savings to pay for it, then go ahead and make the purchase. However, if you discover that the purchase is simply a cover up to a much larger issue, such as being unhappy in another area of your life, or find that it will leave you in debt, then skip it. It’s just a temporary fix and will ultimately leave you in a bigger mess than when you started. Avoid making rash decisions and don’t forget to the consider the long term effects versus the short term instant gratification.
Remember, when it comes to making a major decision, such as buying a house or a new car, you need to consider both the logical and emotional sides. After all, logic makes people think but emotion makes people act. Every decision is based on emotion but it’s up to you to decide whether it’s a positive or negative solution.
